Decoration today has taken many avenues and almost anything goes. People are no longer going with the norm but are thinking outside of the box. Although they tend to stick with a particular theme, there is still the need to base their decorating need whether it is modern, traditional, or transitional, around a certain color or object.
When it comes to making a change or a beginning a newly developed decorating project, and it does not matter if it is in the living room, den, bedroom or even a bathroom, pillows can be found in the midst of the furnishings. Pillows can set the stage and also put the finishing touch on any idea that comes to mind. They work great singly or as multiples, as well as on one piece of furnishing or in a grouping. They can complement any style, color, or design. The list of creative things that can be done with pillows is endless, dependent on the individual’s desires.
Cushions are great for the outdoor as well as indoor. If you are planning on having or have a patio or a deck, they are great accessories for enhancing a setting around a swimming pool or a barbecue area. When shopping for the right pillows, the fabric must be water proof since they will be exposed to different types of weather conditions such as water, heat, cold, mildew, etc. Also whether you are making the pillows or buying them ready-made, consider the type of fabric that is not easily prone to fading such as canvas, twill, duck, vinyl, cotton, or linen.
Outdoor cushions can be round, square, or other shapes. This is based on the design of the furniture, which gives thought to the style of outdoor cushions that will be used. The difference is the type of edging that the pillow has.
• Boxed edges. These edges are formed by a top, bottom, and side layers of fabric that forms the boxed edges. The styles in this type are boxed chair, boxed chaise lounge, boxed dining chair, boxed high back lounge chair, and boxed ottoman.
• Knife edges. This edge is formulated with only two layers of fabric that is sewn together to make up the knife edge. The styles are back, lounge, loveseat, chaise lounge, club chair, and high back chair.
• French edges. This is a combination of the boxed and the knife, where the corners are pleated, creating a French edge. The styles include French seam chair, French seam ottoman, and French Style chaise lounge.
Cushions are perfect for wicker and wrought iron furniture, benches, swings and garden chairs. Each of these furnishing can accommodate any of the above mentioned pillow types.
To add more creativity to outdoor pillows they can be made or brought with button insets which are held together with a strong thread. Other ways of adding a different look is the integration of topstitching, ties, piping, welting, cording, and zippers.
When considering the many uses of outdoor cushions, you can not alleviate the family pet dog or cat. If your pet is an outdoor or indoor animal, his or her favorite place is going to be on that special spot which is the pet pillow. There are many other alternatives that can be integrated when using outdoor cushions. As an individual’s creativity kicks in the materialization can be amazing.
